Questions on radiation in ground on site of new homes

RUSHCLIFFE Borough Council has promised that any “potential risks to human health” at a planned 4,000-home estate will be “identified and addressed” before any work goes ahead.

Plans for a new village, on the site of Nottingham City Airport and its surrounding airfields, have been in the works for more than a decade but have caused significant backlash from neighbours.

A 2008 land survey found that the area between Tollerton and Gamston was contaminated with radioactive material due to the site being used for the discarding and burning of more than 1,000 planes after the Second World War.
