QMC closes unit on trial basis after patients seen ‘queuing in the rain'

THE trust running Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre has confirmed it is trialling the closure of a vital unit at the hospital after a staff member raised concerns about people “queuing in the rain.”

The acute medicine receiving area (AMRA) at the QMC is designed to streamline patients who arrive at the hospital following a GP referral and who are predicted to need admitting. Those patients receive a quick assessment there before moving through to other areas of the hospital.

The Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH) has now confirmed it is trialling a 12-week closure of AMRA to create space elsewhere in the hospital.
