OFFICER DENIES MAKING MISOGYNISTIC REMARKS
A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE Police officer was playing devil's advocate when he allegedly described women as “like chickens in a pen for men” and allegedly said men were “born with the nature to be rapists and murderers”, a misconduct hearing heard.
Hakeem Ahmed is alleged to have made inappropriate and misogynistic remarks over the space of around a year, and was also alleged to have called a female colleague a “dirty b**ch”.
The allegations are at the centre of the police misconduct hearing into PC Ahmed, which began at Nottinghamshire Police’s headquarters yesterday.
Several officers gave evidence about the comments they said PC Ahmed made, with one of them challenged on why she had “equated” PC Ahmed’s Islamic faith with misogyny.
PC Ahmed has been employed by Nottinghamshire Police since September 2021, when he joined a police constable degree apprenticeship scheme.
It was during university lectures and training sessions that all the comments were allegedly made by PC Ahmed, according to witnesses, although his legal representative said at the hearing that, while he did “admit making certain comments; they were only meant to “promote discussion within that academic setting”.
The investigation into PC Ahmed’s conduct began when four female police officers who were in his cohort submitted a complaint in 2022 to one of their lecturers.
The hearing now being held, chaired by temporary deputy chief constable Rob Griffin, will determine whether PC Ahmed’s conduct amounted to gross misconduct, misconduct or no misconduct - with the maximum penalty being dismissal without notice.
Other comments said to have been made by PC Ahmed include him claiming that “the colour underwear women wear is linked to rape” and that “women should just look after their children”.
