LEWIS Macari will be offered “support and protection" after the Notts County defender was charged with betting offences earlier this week.

The Football Association allege the 23-year-old placed 354 bets on matches between February 2020 and December 4, 2022, which is against the rules.
Macari, grandson of former Manchester United and Scotland midfielder Lou Macari, was a Stoke City player when the offences are claimed to have taken place.
The defender had until yesterday to respond to the charges.
When news broke of the allegations on Monday, the Magpies said in a statement that Macari would be supported “throughout the investigation.”
