'One-of-a-kind' circus school has hopes for new city home

For more than a decade, Tuyo Circus Arts has trained hundreds of children and young people across Nottingham into professional circus performers.

The centre provides aerial and acrobatic skills training, which requires a range of equipment which is often hard to come by. Having previously provided this space in Sneinton, Tuyo has offered a 'one-of-a-kind' service, being one a handful of dedicated circus schools in the UK.

Throughout the years, the school has also helped children with mental health issues and special needs, who use the centre as an outlet from mainstream education.

However, on March 4, the business told the Post its future was up in the air with only 10 days to vacate their previous premises.

The Iona School closed in September 2024, with administrators citing rising operating costs and a decline in pupil numbers. Emails seen by the Post show the building's sale was finalised in February, at which point staff at Tuyo which had operated from the school's gym since 2012 - were made aware of the closure.
