Old factory shop to be demolished in £62m Kirkby ‘Gateway’ project

A “long-forgotten” part of a Nottinghamshire town is set to be brought to life under major new plans - with a longstanding derelict building to make room for a “striking landmark building”.

The former factory shop on Ellis Street, Kirkby, is set to be demolished soon after Ashfield District Council revealed large-scale plans for what it calls the ‘North Kirkby Gateway’ earlier this year.

The land will house 24 town centre apartments and business units along Kirkby Plaza, as well as new parking spaces and 55 retirement units for Ashfield residents.

Funded by part of the council's £62,600,000 Towns Deal, the empty building was acquired earlier this year due to its prime location for redevelopment.
