Nurses aim to bring festive cheer to those in hospital at Christmas

WHILE many people will be indulging in food, presents and family time this Christmas, some NHS workers are getting ready for 12-hour shifts.

But one Nottingham nurse says that working over the festive period is something to be celebrated,.

Sally Mantle is a deputy sister on Nottingham City Hospital's Nightingale Ward, which specialises in infectious diseases.

Sally, who has been on the ward for three years, explained that staff alternated working on Christmas Day, with one year off and one on.

She said: “I've always worked over Christmas - it comes with the job. I don’t mind doing it - it's quite a nice day because it’s a special day.

“The chaos happens before Christmas, when there's a mad rush to discharge people for the holidays to be with their loved ones but then Christmas Day is usually quiet.
