New clue could mean progress on way for old police HQ

A CLUE has signalled that progress on long-awaited plans to transform an abandoned police headquarters and regenerate a large part of the city may be on the way.

A major planning application intended to demolish the former police and fire service station on Shakespeare Street, Nottingham, has been formally withdrawn.
Developer Miller Birch wanted to replace the large 1930s building with a student block with more than 900 bed spaces, but this was thwarted when the Art Deco structure was granted protected status in September 2023 just before planning permission could be granted by Nottingham City Council - which owns it and the Guildhall next door.
