'Milestone' for town improvements as cinema demolition set to begin

WORK to demolish a former cinema and nightclub in Long Eaton is set to begin next month.

A £25 million investment will see an overhaul of the town's High Street and new homes, flats and shops on the site of the former Galaxy Cinema.

The cinema, opened in 1907, has been an eyesore since closing more than a decade ago.

The neighbouring venue, the former Stage One nightclub, will also be demolished to "make way for a wholesale regeneration of what is known as Galaxy Row".

The development is due to finish in August next year, with the High Street scheme also expected to be complete by then.

The money has come from the Government's Town Deal fund, a £3.6 billion scheme to regenerate towns and foster long-term economic growth through investments in infrastructure, skills, and enterprise.
