VICTIM REPEATEDLY SAID HE DIDN'T WANT A FIGHT

- MARTIN NAYLOR

A MAN stamped on the head of his next door neighbour during “a sustained and violent” attack outside their homes.

Nottingham Crown Court heard how mentally-ill Nathan McLatchie, aged 46, punched his innocent victim to the floor after assuming a boxing stance and challenging him to a fight in Carlton.

The man he assaulted, who repeatedly told him he did not want to get involved, was left “dripping with blood” and required a CT scan in hospital. But McLatchie has been spared an immediate prison term so that his mental health issues can be dealt with.

Handing him a two-year community order, Judge Steven Coupland said: “You are someone who has suffered serious mental health issues for a long time. You have had lengthy treatment and have regular medication you need to take.

“Set against that, for no good reason you chose to carry out a sustained and violent attack on one of your neighbours, punching him to the ground and stamping on his head.”
