Late Hall goal settles Trophy Tyke the points

TYRESE HALL struck an 89th minute winner to seal a 2-1 victory for Notts County over Barnsley in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday.

This Northern Group D fixture at Meadow Lane appeared to be heading towards a draw before the on-loan Tottenham Hotspur midfielder netted from close range.

This was after Jayden Luker had fired Martin Paterson’s Magpies ahead in just the ninth minute, with Barnsley equalising early in the second half through captain Davis Keillor-Dunn.

The Tykes, however, lost defender Jonathan Bland to a second yellow card just three minutes later and were unable to hold out for a point, despite playing almost 35 minutes of the half with 10 men.

Incessant pressure from the hosts was eventually rewarded with Hall securing all three points ahead of the final group-stage match against Manchester United Under 21s.

Boss Paterson made six changes to the side that suffered a sickening defeat at Crewe three days earlier.

Jacob Bedeau, Lewis Macari, Tom Iorpenda, Hall and Alassana Jatta were the only players to keep their place in the starting XI, with Harry Griffiths, Lucas Ness, Ollie Norburn, Keanan Bennetts, Maz Kouhyar and Luker stepping in.
