THE POPULAR ATTRACTION HAS BEEN COMING TO NOTTINGHAM SINCE 1907

It's well over a century old but Cake Walk's still a treat

THE oldest ride at Goose Fair goes back more than 100 years. Standing alongside all the exhilarating, high-speed, newer contraptions is the Old Tyme Brooklyn Cake Walk.

It's the only ride at the fair that dates back to the time when Goose Fair was held in Old Market Square, before its move to Forest Recreation Ground.

Introduced around 1907, the clanking moving walkway remains a hit today with fair-goers young and old.

It's been in Lol Bishton's family since 1963 but originally it belonged to Albert Richards, and later his son Harry. It can be found in the fair's vintage area alongside a pepperpot helter skelter and gallopers.

The ride even played its part in the Second World War, when the cake walk was rolled on its side at Abbey Bridge as a barricade when invasion was expected in 1940.
