Is the ice starting to melt between Reform and the Post?

"I’M on the side of you guys". Not the words I was expecting to hear at Reform UK's party conference, writes OLIVER PRIDMORE.

- OLIVER PRIDMORE.

Covering Reform’s party conference while its Nottinghamshire County Council leadership continues to ban the Posy may appear a strange choice. Many have argued since the ban was announced that we should react by simply refusing to cover anything Reform does or says.

But the whole point of the relentless coverage we have given to the ban has not simply been to kick up a fuss without purpose.

The point has been to highlight the issue in a bid to get the ban lifted and to be able to do our jobs again without any restrictions.

Fundamental to that is covering the actions and words of those running the services our readers rely on and holding them to account. While the ban may affect the latter element, it does little to affect the former and our coverage of Reform has not simply come to an end.

We made the decision to go to the party's Birmingham conference long before the ban was instigated.

National party conferences are not something we always attend, but Reform is becoming an increasingly important party to cover here.
