How huge 3,000-home estate with potential for tram link is progressing

PLANS FOR MEGAPROJECT HAVE TAKEN YEARS TO BRING FORWARD
JUST outside of Nottingham a wholly new neighbourhood is quickly springing up and welcoming the first of thousands of residents, but this sprawling megaproject has been more than a decade in the making.
In time, the Fairham Pastures development, which is between Gotham in Rushcliffe and Clifton, in Nottingham, will include 3,000 homes, a business park, sports facilities and primary school when finally completed.
The development of the 606-acre neighbourhood started formally in 2014, with an outline planning application for the site that it took until 2019 for Rushcliffe Borough Council to approve.
This allowed the development to go ahead “in principle”, ahead of more detailed plans being presented to the authority.
The huge project will also feature a safeguarded route to allow for the possible future extension of the tram through the site, and Gypsy and Traveller pitches.
Clowes Developments and Homes England, which are the private developer and agency behind Fairham, have said the project will create thousands of new homes, jobs and opportunities for Nottingham and become the region's “prime commercial and residential destination”.
