Hotel haunt of celebrities is going up for auction

A FOUR-STAR hotel which has counted Sir Roger Moore, Bob Hoskins, Callum Best and Christopher Biggins among its guests is to go under the hammer.

The privately-owned Walton Hotel, on the edge of the affluent Park Estate, has been closed since the pandemic in 2020, apart from a brief time last year, but the leaseholders left after eight months amidst complaints about rubbish.

Owner Alice Tarry took over the Grade II listed hotel with a 40-seater restaurant, in Derby Road, 12 years ago, and, in its heyday, it hosted charity lunches, firework displays and New Year's Eve parties.

Celebrities, including panto stars appearing at the Theatre Royal, enjoyed the hotel's luxurious surroundings.

Alice said: “We closed it during Covid and I enjoyed life so much that I thought I'm not going back. We leased it and sadly that turned very sour.
