VANDALISM MAKES IT UNSAFE

- By JOSHUA HARTLEY

COUNCILLORS are weighing up ideas to help villagers "extremely frustrated" by the closure of a nature trail.

The popular route between Holme Lane and Stragglethorpe Road in Radcliffe-on-Trent has been shut since January last year, when a caravan owner allegedly dug out an embankment with an excavator, making it dangerously unstable.

The £250,000 "greenway" route for cyclists, walkers and horse riders links Radcliffe-on-Trent to Cotgrave and opened in 2019. The closure of part of the trail, on a former railway line, has led to demands to reopen it.

But Nottinghamshire County Council has baulked at the cost of fixing the damage, which it says is too high to be met from its existing budget.
