COUNCIL bosses have said an “oversight” led to a street sign being misspelt.

Ballantrae Close, off Howbeck Road, Arnold, was one of a number of streets having its sign replaced due to it being old and worn, with a revised, modern one put in its place.

But while intentions were good, it was not the replacement itself that caught people's attention, but the fact the last two letters of the street's name have been swapped around.

Ballantrae has become Ballantrea, at odds with the sign on the opposite side of the road.

Gedling Borough Council is working on correcting the error.

A passerby spotted the blunder and posted it on Facebook, garnering a lively response from those in a local group.
