Family's joy and relief after sisters who faced deportation are freed

A FAMILY living in Nottingham are “overjoyed” after two sisters who were detained and faced deportation back to El Salvador were released.

Ivania Rodriguez Sanchez, 24, and Karla Rodriguez Sanchez, 26, had fled to the UK with their parents in 2019 having been threatened by gang members in their home country.

They were detained by immigration officials in March after reported “administrative errors” by the Home Office and kept in a detention centre in County Durham for four weeks.

However, with their deportation flights looming, the women were freed on Good Friday (April 18) and they were reunited with parents Hector and Raina, who live in Basford, for the Easter weekend.

Rob Gale, lead pastor at The Peoples Church in Bestwood Park, who helped provide the family with legal support, said lawyers had persuaded a judge to approve a review of their case.
