Family 'let down again' by police watchdog over Kaine inquest verdict

THE family of a young dad who died hours after being restrained by police during a mental health episode say they have been “let down” by the police watchdog.

Kaine Fletcher, 26, from Strelley, was suffering a mental health crisis when police were called to his address at the YMCA in Hucknall on July 3, 2022.

Last month’s jury inquest to investigate the circumstances of his death found that multiple gross failings contributed to his death, which happened just hours after he was restrained by police officers.

Mr Fletcher suffered a cardiac arrest at the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), where he was taken after he was detained under the Mental Health Act. He died on July 3.

The father-of-two had been diagnosed with paranoid personality sisorder and had a history of substance abuse, having been in rehab twice.
