Council in process of reinstating rules over letting boards

MORE THAN 90% IN FAVOUR OF RESTRICTIONS
NOTTINGHAM City Council is now in the process of reinstating “strict” rules for letting boards in inner-city areas.
Numerous complaints were directed at the council about signs cluttering the streets of student-populated neighbourhoods.
Restrictions were put in place in 2011 but these only lasted until 2023.
Since then, the city council has been keeping a close eye on the situation as, after the controls were lifted, the number of letting boards soared, prompting a review of the situation.
The restrictions apply to large swathes of Lenton, Radford, Wollaton, Dunkirk and the Arboretum.
After identifying the areas where restrictions were needed, the council asked interested parties to participate in a consultation that started on April 22 and lasted until May 20.
The survey found that over 90% of respondents were in favour of reintroducing the restrictions to around 240 streets, with the majority also in favour of a ten-year duration of the rules.
Respondents claimed the restrictions would help improve the areas’ visual appearance, reduce crime and antisocial behaviour, eliminate unnecessary physical boards in a digital age, and have environmental/sustainability benefits.
