SCHOOL bosses have responded to allegations some pupils were disciplined after shaving their heads in solidarity with a friend who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Claims have surfaced on social media that several pupils at Newark Academy were placed into isolation and banned from an end-of-year prom over their behaviour.

Senior leaders at the Nova Education Trust, which runs the school in London Road, Balderton, were unable to confirm or deny the claims.

But staff said that while they “acknowledged and commend the compassion” of the act, the action taken by the academy was in line with their school policy.
