NOTTINGHAM City Council will have to spend more than £300,000 after an insurer refused to fully insure one its flagship buildings unless a change was made.

The city council spent tens of millions of pounds on the structure that hosts Broad Marsh Car Park along with its bus station and the Central Library, but it will now have to shell out hundreds of thousands more to fix a problem that has left the authority “financially exposed.”

The city council has had to approve spending £315,000 on fitting sprinklers on the top floor of the car park, as Zurich Municipal (ZM) Insurance had told it in April that it would refuse to fully cover the building unless the safety step was taken.
