ROBERTS IS CONFIDENT HE'S READY TO MAKE THE STEP UP

- By SAM ALLEN

Cal: There's no fluke about my return to Magpies

AS he reminisces about old times, Cal Roberts wants to show everyone why Notts County brought him back to the club as one of their first signings following promotion to League One.

There were sentimental reasons to bring the 29-year-old back to the Magpies, but those would not have been part of the club’s justification for doing so, as they see a player with the quality to step up two levels in one summer.

Roberts had been plying his trade in the National League with Scunthorpe United, which was where Notts were when he joined them for the first time in January 2020 from Blyth Spartans.

He came through Newcastle United’s academy but did not make it as a professional there, rebuilding in non-League with the Magpies the first time around before moving to the Scottish top flight with Aberdeen.
