Bin lorries diverted as blaze hits waste site

BIN lorries had to be diverted after a fire broke out at a recycling centre in the early hours.

The blaze, at the Claylands Avenue waste site, in Worksop, affected the transfer station, where bin lorries tip waste before it is taken elsewhere to process.
The fire broke out at about 2am on Wednesday. Crews spent most of the day tackling it before dampening it down and carrying out clear-up work.
The site is run by Veoila, which has a contract with Nottinghamshire County Council to manage waste.
