December 25, 2025

A REMOTE rural pub known for its fire-cooked feasts and community-first ethos has scooped yet another accolade - just in time for the festive season.

- by LEWIS CLARKE

The Black River Inn, based in the village of Black Torrington, was recognised at the Devon Tourism Awards where it triumphed in the best pub category.

Owners Gill and Alex Pallatt were praised for their innovative blend of sustainable practices, local sourcing, and hospitality. The win follows a string of honours this year, including awards from Food and Drink Devon for best pub and sustainability, and reaching the semifinals in The British Institute of Innkeeping’s licensee of the year competition.
