Celebrations as lifeboat station marks milestone 200 years and wedding day

SPECIAL celebrations have been marked by Appledore RNLI marking its 200 year birthday and a double crew wedding.

The annual lifeboat day saw the village commemorate the milestone anniversary this year, having received the very first RNLI commissioned working lifeboat anywhere within the service in 1825.

Crowds joined the festivities visiting Mollie Hunt, Appledore Tamar class all-weather lifeboat before it went off to greet its flanking stations on the Bar. The North Devon Lifeboats then paraded into the estuary led by Appledore’s Tamar, Ilfracombe’s Shannon, Atlantic 85's from both Appledore and Clovelly, Appledore’s smaller D class and the lifeguards creating a truly spectacular sight.

There were rescue demonstrations and the lifeboat station was supported on the day by the coastguards and fire and rescue services, often involved in multi-agency rescues with the RNLI.
