TV, OTTs Brace for Temporary 20% Dip in Viewership Amid IPL Frenzy

Broadcast and streaming platforms are bracing for a customary drop in viewership during the Indian Premier League season.
These services, primarily focused on entertainment programming, anticipate a 20% fall in viewership and engagement for non-sport genres and in most cases, find it wise to defer big-ticket releases until the T20 cricket tournament ends.
Some OTTs will adopt marketing strategies to maintain user engagement and attract viewers during the IPL, from 22 March to 25 May this year. They will continue with niche programming targeted at segments to lure viewers who are not interested in either cricket or sports as a whole.
