Ambani retakes rich list top spot from Adani

|October 02, 2025
Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani once again reclaimed the title of India’s richest person from Gautam Adani in 2025 because of a sharper erosion in the latter's net worth, according to an annual list published by Hurun India on Wednesday.
Despite a 6% year-on-year fall, Ambani's net worth remained around the ₹10-trillion mark at ₹9.6 trillion. Adani’s net worth declined 30% to ₹8.1 trillion. In what could be perceived as historic, Roshni Nadar Malhotra of HCL Technologies became a new entrant in the richest 10 list in 2025, with a net worth of ₹2.8 trillion. She became India’s richest woman as well as the youngest on the list. Malhotra’s net worth shot up after her father Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL Technologies, gifted her 47% of his stake in HCL Corporation and Vama Delhi as part of the strategic succession plan in March.
India added 24 new dollar billionaires (at prevailing exchange rate) this year, bringing the total to 358, a significant jump from 109 in 2014.
