Oppn hits out at Waqf panel chief over 'comments violating norms'

NEW DELHI: Sparks flew between the BJP and Opposition members over TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee's unruly conduct at a sitting of the parliamentary panel on the Waqf Bill, with the ruling party seeking his immediate suspension from Lok Sabha and the DMK, AIMIM and AAP targeting committee chairman Jagdambika Pal for "going public" about the proceedings of the meeting.

Pal rejected the allegations levelled by DMK member A Raja and AAP member Sanjay Singh, asserting that he had not made public proceedings of the committee but spoke about an incident of violence that had taken place during the meeting.

"I have not revealed any proceedings or deliberations of the committee. I have only made a statement about an incident of violence during the committee meeting by a member and his subsequent suspension," Pal said.

Raja and Singh termed Pal's media statements on the incident involving Banerjee as "unfortunate" during a meeting of the committee on Tuesday.
