Mumbai Police Arrest Bangladeshi National in Saif Stabbing Case

Mumbai Police have apprehended a Bangladeshi national in connection with the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence, solving the high-profile case within three days of the incident.

MUMBAI: The accused, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, was arrested from a labour camp in Thane during the early hours of Sunday.

The 30-year-old suspect, who had been living in India under the alias Vijay Das, allegedly broke into Khan's apartment in the Satguru Sharan building on January 16, leading to a violent confrontation that left the 54-year-old actor with multiple stab wounds requiring a five-hour surgery at Lilavati Hospital.

A senior police official detailed the break-in sequence: "He entered the duct area, climbed to the 12th floor using a pipe, and entered the actor's flat through a bathroom window." The situation escalated when the intruder was spotted by household staff, leading to a confrontation where he demanded Rs 1 crore. When Khan intervened to protect his staff, the accused stabbed him in the back.

The breakthrough in the case came after an extensive investigation involving multiple police teams and the crime branch.
