The incident has sparked widespread protests across the region, with citizens demanding justice and increased security measures for women and children.

According to police reports, the class 10 student was returning home from her tuition classes on her bicycle around 8 pm when she was allegedly accosted by three individuals on a motorcycle. The perpetrators are accused of assaulting and raping the minor before abandoning her in an injured and unconscious state near a roadside pond.

Local residents discovered the girl and immediately alerted the authorities. She was initially taken to a health centre in Dhing before being transferred to a hospital in Nagaon for treatment and medical examination.

The incident has drawn sharp reactions from various quarters, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assuring stern action against the perpetrators. Speaking to reporters in Hailakandi, Sarma stated: "The criminals who dared to commit such a heinous crime against a minor girl of Dhing will not be spared by the law. I have directed the DGP and Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika to rush to Dhing and take the toughest action."
