HC Asks Maratha Quota Protesters To Vacate Streets By Tuesday Noon

The Bombay High Court on Monday directed supporters of Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange to vacate all city streets by Tuesday noon, stating that the ongoing agitation has paralysed Mumbai and violated conditions set for a peaceful protest.

The court described the situation on the fourth day of Jarange's hunger strike at Azad Maidan as "grim" and asked protesters to remain within the designated area.

A bench of Justices Ravindra Ghuge and Gautam Ankhad noted that the demonstrators lacked valid permission to continue the stir and instructed the Maharashtra government to follow due legal procedures to restore order. "The city of Mumbai has been practically brought to a standstill," the court said, highlighting blockades near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Churchgate, Marine Drive, and the high court building.
