NEW Existing Permanent Account Number (PAN) cardholders will not be required to apply for a new card under the upgraded PAN 2.0 system, the Income Tax Department clarified on Tuesday. The revamped system aims to introduce a "common identifier" for business activities while streamlining taxpayer services.
The announcement follows the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approving the Rs 1,435-crore PAN 2.0 Project. This initiative seeks to modernize and consolidate the PAN and TAN management systems, ensuring user-friendly and efficient processes.
