The campaigning for by-elections in nine assembly constituencies of Uttar Pradesh concluded on Monday evening, setting the stage for polling on November 20.
Polling across the nine constituencies will begin at 7 am and end at 6 pm on November 20, while the counting of votes will be taken up on November 23.
The by-elections are being seen as a semi-final ahead of the 2027 state assembly elections and have become a prestige battle for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, particularly after the BJP's lacklustre performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state.
For the BJP, the bypolls are an opportunity to recover lost ground after its poor showing in the Lok Sabha elections, where it struggled to counter the opposition's narrative on issues like constitutional changes and reservations for Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes.
