There is some magic in wishing as it helps us look into the future with hope.he mother of James and John approaches Jesus with a grandiose wish, that is, to have her sons get some “special seats” in God’s Kingdom. Instead of granting her wish, Jesus offers her sons a much more meaningful gift though—the cup of suffering, the gift of the cross.

St. John of the Cross said, “Oh cherished Cross! Through you, my most bitter trials are replete with graces!” The gift of the cross that he received was never empty. When he “unboxed” that gift, he found it to be filled with light, with love, and with God. Now, you might want to add the “gift of the cross” to the top of your wish list.
