Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Haim for the win

Fans of the pop megastar know that this issue has been a huge one for Swift, originating from when media venture capitalist Scooter Braun's purchase of Big Machine Records in 2019, and with it, the rights to Swift's first six albums.

Denied the chance to buy back her work, Swift has since embarked on the gargantuan task to re-record six of those albums as “Taylor’s Version,” complete with bonus tracks and expanded album art that her loyal fandom supported, essentially diminishing the value of the originals.

Braun later sold the masters to Shamrock Capital in 2020. Shamrock Capital, a private equity firm specializing in media, entertainment, and communications, ultimately struck a deal with Swift for her to purchase her original catalog directly.
