State-run firms’ subsidies down
Manila Bulletin
|July 14 2025
Government subsidies to state-run firms plummeted by 27 percent to P45 billion in the first five months of the year from P57 billion in the same period the previous year.
This reduction comes as the Marcos administration in May continued to slash funding for major non-financial and financial government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs).
Data from the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) showed that subsidies for major non-financial corporations shrank by 38.7 percent to P23.6 billion in January to May 2025, compared to P38.5 billion in the previous year. These firms accounted for more than half, or 52.4 percent, of the year-to-date subsidies.
