The Department of Education (DepEd) has officially set June 16, 2025 as the start of classes for School Year (SY) 2025-2026, marking a return to the pre-pandemic academic calendar.

- MERLINA HERNANDO-MALIPOT

The school opening date was outlined in DepEd Order No. 012, series of 2025, dated April 15. The order, titled "Multi-Year Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities," was signed by DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara.

DepEd said that SY 2025-2026 "shall formally open on Monday, June 16, 2025, and shall end on Tuesday, March 31, 2026." According to the department, the incoming school year shall consist of no more than 197 class days, inclusive of the End-of-School-Year (EOSY) rites, or as may be determined by subsequent issuances in case of changes to the school calendar due to unforeseen circumstances.

The guidelines were issued to "enable schools and community learning centers (CLCS) to effectively and efficiently implement school activities and maximize instructional time, cognizant of the goals and objectives" of the Marcos administration.
