Rediscovering our home
Manila Bulletin
|May 2, 2025
It's summer and many will be planning trips out of the city, or the country.

Just a reminder: you don't need a passport to find paradise—it's right here at home. With more than 7,000 islands rich in culture, history, and natural wonders, the Philippines offers world-class destinations that deserve to be explored not just by international travelers, but by Filipinos themselves.
In fact, traveling within our own country is one of the most meaningful ways we can contribute to national development.
Domestic tourism has emerged as a powerful force, especially after the pandemic.
Trips to any local destination are more than personal getaways—they are lifelines for local economies. When you visit a local destination, you support small businesses: from homestay owners and tour guides to local food vendors, tricycle drivers, and artisans. Your presence translates into income, jobs, and opportunities for growth.
Tourism is one of the country's major economic drivers. Before the pandemic, the sector contributed 12.7 percent to the national GDP. Today, it continues to fuel recovery, with domestic travelers playing a crucial role.
