PH can't stay out of Taiwan conflict - PBBM

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the Philippines "cannot stay out" of a potential conflict in Taiwan due to its proximity and the presence of thousands of Filipino workers, even as he clarified that Manila's primary concern is humanitarian, not military.

Marcos said this amid tensions in the Taiwan Strait, with growing concerns that regional military conflict could spill over and affect neighboring countries, including the Philippines.

In an interview with Indian news website Firstpost, the President said it is impossible for the Philippines to stay out of the Taiwan conflict.

"To be very practical about it, if there is a confrontation over Taiwan between China and the United States, there is no way that the Philippines can stay out of it. Simply because of our physical geographic location," he said.
