PEZA pushes for aviation-focused economic zones

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is planning to craft guidelines to establish ecozones specifically geared toward attracting investments in the aviation and aerospace industries.

PEZA Director General Tereso Panga told Manila Bulletin on Monday, Feb. 16, that the investment promotion agency (IPA) will collaborate with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) in developing a framework to turn aerotropolis ecozones into reality.

“That is included in our proposed amendments to the PEZA Law,” Panga said.

PEZA earlier cited aerotropolis ecozones among the industry-specific ecozones it plans to add under the proposed amendments to the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995, which established the IPA.

It sees the need to make these special ecozones operational “in the near future” as more aircraft-related manufacturing companies enter the country.
