‘Nando’ now a super typhoon; Signal No. 5 may be raised - PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Typhoon Nando (international name: Ragasa) intensified into a super typhoon at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Nando is packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts reaching up to 230 kph.

While the highest tropical cyclone wind signal currently raised is No. 2, PAGASA said it is not ruling out the possibility of hoisting Signal No. 5 as Nando could strengthen further before approaching extreme Northern Luzon.

As of 11 a.m., areas under Signal No. 2 are Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, the northern and eastern portions of Isabela (San Mariano, Ilagan City, Tumauini, Cabagan, Palanan, Divilacan, Maco-nacon, San Pablo, Santa Maria, Santo Tomas, Delfin Albano, Quezon), Apa-yao, the eastern portion of Kalinga (Rizal, City of Tabuk, Pinukpuk), and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Vintar, Carasi, Adams, Dum-alneg, Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin).
