EU observers start full deployment for May 12 polls this week

About 200 members of the European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission (EOM) are expected to be deployed in different parts of the country on election day this week to observe the voting, counting and tabulation of votes for the May 12 polls.

This was disclosed by EU EOM Media Analyst Ivan Godarsky, who paid a courtesy call at the Manila Bulletin (MB) head office in Intramuros, Manila, on Monday, May 5, 2024.

In his meeting with MB Publisher Herminio Coloma, Executive Editors Ed Bartilad and Pinky Colmenares, Senior News Editor Isabel de Leon, and News Editor Rocky Nazareno, Godarsky said the mission, which already has a core team of 12 analysts in the country, will be further augmented by 72 long-term observers and 104 short-term observers. They are expected to arrive in the country middle of this week.

Portuguese Marta Termido, a member of the European Parliament, will be the Philippines-deployed EU EOM's chief observer.
