Building a 'Filipinnovation' culture
Manila Bulletin
|May 6, 2025
A thriving economy is often the result of a well-established and dynamic innovation ecosystem, where creativity, technology, risk-taking, and entrepreneurship converge to drive progress.
-
Nations that foster innovation through strong policies, research investments, human capital development programs, and collaboration between industries create fertile ground for groundbreaking advancements. This, in turn, leads to increased productivity, job creation, and global competitiveness, ensuring long-term economic resilience. As industries evolve and adapt to technological shifts, economies with robust innovation frameworks are better positioned to navigate disruptions and seize new growth opportunities.
The country commemorated its National Innovation Day last Wednesday, April 25, led by the newly minted Department of Economy, Planning, and Development, formerly NEDA, and the National Innovation Council, which President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., chairs. What was supposed to be a one-day event became three days to accommodate design thinking workshops and idea pitching competitions for student teams from different parts of the country. Seeing teams from the Camarines Norte State College garnering top honors in two of the five categories was truly encouraging.
Another day was added to the schedule to give way to the Filipinnovation Awards regional finals for the National Capital Region. The second day was spent mentoring the finalists and selecting the regional winners, which was handled well by prominent startup personalities who also served as judges.
