KIND WORDS OF PRINCESS AS SHE MEETS PATIENTS AND STAFF DURING TOUR OF THE CHRISTIE

- By GRETA SIMPSON

THERE was hardly a dry eye at The Christie hospital in Withington as the Princess of Wales warmly embraced a woman in remission from cancer.

Claire Lorente, 30, was gathered with her baby son Enzo, partner Pablo and extended family bearing flowers and balloons just off the chemotherapy ward as she prepared to ring the bell marking the end of her treatment, which she began in January for breast cancer.

But the celebrations were joined by some unexpected guests: a throng of media, and Kate, who cut an elegant figure in a cobalt blue, calf-length coat and hoop earrings embellished with tiny golden bees.

“Well done you, what a journey,” said the Princess as she embraced an emotional Ms Lorente, “It must have been tough but you've done amazing.”

After enquiring about the treatment of her condition, Kate also offered a hug to her tearful partner Pablo.

“Well done, I know it’s just as hard for family and loved ones, especially as parents.”
