SCHOOL CLOSED AND FLIGHTS CANCELLED AS FREEZING TEMPERATURES HIT REGION

A SCHOOL was closed, road and rail passengers faced delays and flights were cancelled yesterday amid plummeting temperatures after snow fell across Greater Manchester.

Temperatures dipped to almost -6C by 8am yesterday and struggled to get above 2C during the rest of the day, according to data from the Whitworth Observatory in central Manchester.

Temperatures were predicted to be as low as -8C in parts of the north west last night, according to the Met Office.

A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice remained in force for Greater Manchester until noon yesterday, with roads closed and commuters told to allow extra time for journeys.
