DOES ENZ AXE PRESSURE RU?

Enzo Maresca

Enzo Maresca and Chelsea’s parting was not a shock. Since the draw with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, speculation has been mounting regarding the Italian's future.

It was initially believed Maresca would be given until later in January to turn around Chelsea's form but the decision was accelerated to a point where he has left before his team’s first game of the year at City.

Ultimately it was a disappointing end for Maresca but he is unlikely to lose too much sleep over it.

Chelsea will have granted him a sizeable severance package while also freeing him from one of the toughest manager/boardroom relationships in European football.

The Blues will now move onto another head coach who will be given 18 months or two years before feeling the burning desire to leave.
