LAMMENS STARTING TO MAKE A BIG IMPRESSION AT UNITED

- By ALEX JAMES

SENNE Lammens has created a strong first impression at Manchester United having made his debut in the weekend win over Sunderland.

The 23-year-old replaced Altay Bayindir between the posts against the Black Cats and kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win.

Lammens signed for £18.1million from Royal Antwerp on deadline day in the summer and has had to wait for his chance but, having been given an opportunity, the early signs are positive for the Belgium stopper.

He's certainly impressed his teammates while the pundits were effusive in their praise after the win over Sunderland.

United great Wayne Rooney, speaking on Match of the Day, said: “It was a big decision (to play him), it is difficult to be the goalkeeper at Manchester United but I thought he did really well for the majority of the game.

“When you want your goalkeeper to make a save, he made a save.

“The one hiccup he had was when he made the wrong decision and came out and on another day it could have cost him and cost Manchester United.

“In the main I thought he did a lot of good things. And what eve-

ryone wants is when the ball goes into the box you want a keeper who can come and command, catch the ball and I thought it was a good, solid debut for him.”
