We need to make devolution work

THIS week we start with the first monthly column from leader of Cheshire East Council Nick Mannion.

Whether you think the authority is doing a good job or a bad job there’s no doubt all councils are facing tough times and therefore potentially tough decisions.

Coun Mannion is also ward member for Macclesfield West and Ivy so, hopefully, will be able to offer insight on a local and borough-wide level.

OUR part of the world is a special place, with its unique mix of towns, villages and peaceful countryside.

From the bustle of Macclesfield to the charming villages of Sutton, Gawsworth, Prestbury and Mottram St Andrew, each area has its own character and challenges.

We often hear about how devolution benefits big cities like Manchester and Liverpool, but what about rural communities, like those around Macclesfield?

In the borough, nearly half of our residents live in rural areas, and our rural economy is vital to our overall success.
