Town's best designs are celebrated

DEVELOPMENTS with eye-catching design and that have improved the character of our town were celebrated at the Macclesfield Civic Society's annual awards.

The awards honoured five schemes while also handing out the less sought-after title of worst grot spot.

Among the winners was Bollington Brewery on Parker Street, and managing director Lee Wainwright accepted a certificate and plaque.

It impressed with a 'comprehensive and imaginative' repurposing of Brook Mill into a brewery with a bar, shop and 'fascinating' tour.

Another given the thumbs-up was the Old School House (former King's School for Girls), on Fence Avenue, that has been turned into 27 apartments by Torus Developments.
